Julie Beals has been Fresh Cup's editor since March 2005. Before joining the magazine, she worked as a national sales manager for an importer of commercial espresso equipment, and as a writer and editor for national and regional magazines and newspapers. Her experience in the specialty coffee industry combined with her many years as a journalist make her uniquely qualified for her role at Fresh Cup. Beals manages the magazine’s editorial staff and freelance writers, creates the editorial calendar, writes feature articles and keeps tabs on coffee and tea for Fresh Cup readers by meeting with industry professionals, attending trade events, and traveling to café cultures and origin countries.

Nicole Maas joins Fresh Cup as the Advertising and Sales Assistant. Originally from Quincy, Illinois, she attended Iowa State University, where she studied Art & Design. After finishing school in December, she made the long move to Portland, Oregon. While still not used to the rain, seeing the mountains is a welcome change from the Midwest. She has enjoyed exploring Oregon's wine country as well as Portland's many culinary offerings. The specialty food and beverage industry has always been an interest of hers, and she is thrilled to be learning more and more each day.

Cynthia Kirsch is Fresh Cup's Art Director. She grew up near Lake Michigan and moved to Portland when she was 14 years old. After high school,
she lived in and around Oregon's Central Coast before moving back to
Portland to attend college. Cynthia graduated from Portland State University
in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in graphic design. She has an appreciative
eye for architecture and art and has spent time wandering through museums in
Washington D.C. and Amsterdam. Cynthia looks at everything from a design
perspective and is constantly looking for anything that may bring about
creative genius. She feels that design does not happen in a vacuum -
anything can have the potential to inspire! In her free time she loves to run and take part in 10-kilometer races. She
uses this time to clear her head and gain energy, which is a plus when it
comes to deadlines. Cynthia loves to spoil her nieces and nephews; also precious to her is the
array of animals she has, which includes a lizard, a cat and her dog,
Bailey. |

Natalie Turner is Fresh Cup's Associate Art Director. A native Oregonian, Natalie graduated from Portland State University in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in graphic design and a minor in psychology. A renegade idealist from a young age, Natalie spent her time after graduation volunteering her design skills for multiple nonprofits in the Portland area and took many spontaneous road trips with her best friend using only maps that were made in 1972. Against all odds, she has yet to break any bones in her body, have stitches or be stung by a bee. In her spare time, she enjoys getting her picture taken with crazed goats at petting zoos, wearing tacky holiday sweaters and nurturing her unhealthy obsession with movies. |

Diane Howard's
title of Fresh Cup
business administrator hardly does justice to her countless responsibilities around
the office. Not only does Diane oversee all invoices and accounts, she manages
the company's human resources department. And every Fresh Cupper would agree that
she is invaluable as our Office Mom, administering advice and Band-Aids, chatting
about the latest movies and using her seemingly superhuman power to keep every
last Fresh Cup
detail in perfect order. Chances are, she'll be able to find a solution for any
problems with accounts payable and receivable. |

Chris graduated from the University of Oregon in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism. While attending the school, he logged some time as copy chief at the Oregon Daily Emerald, the campus newspaper.
