“We are thrilled to bring Detroit Coffee Week to our amazing city,” said Amélie Haakonsen, director of sales and education at Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters and organizer of Detroit Coffee Week. Nearly all the events hosted throughout the week, a mix of learning opportunities and social events, are free.

“Our goal for this event is to make education and experiences accessible to all,” said Haakonsen, “all while fostering connections, sharing knowledge, and elevating the coffee experience for everyone involved.”

Why It Matters: The team behind Detroit Coffee Week has teamed up with the US chapter of the Specialty Coffee Association to host its slate of events, along with sponsorship partners like Planet Oat, Black Rabbit Service Co, Probat, Slayer, Barista Magazine, Roast Magazine, Visions, Hario USA, Espresso Parts.

Here’s just a selection of the events happening during the week:

  • Tech classes hosted by Black Rabbit Service Co.
  • Latte art tutorials and a throwdown
  • Cuppings with coffees shared by importers like Cafe Imports, Ally Coffee, Artisan Coffee, Yellow Rooster Coffee Imports, List + Biesler, and JNP
  • A signature drink competition
  • Lectures and discussions on marketing, sustainable green buying, and women in coffee
