Red Rooster Coffee Builds a Nest for Baby Chicks

[E]mployees of Red Rooster Coffee will now be able to bring their entire flock to work. Yellow Hen Child Care is a newly licensed daycare facility housed in the same building as Red Rooster’s coffee shop and roasting operation in Floyd, Virginia. In addition to having child-care on-site —an important aspect for nursing mothers—Red Rooster also subsidizes 80 percent of childcare costs for employees. Co-owners, spouses, and parents Rose McCutchan and Haden Polseno-Hensley say that the facility is an investment in employee retention and job satisfaction, and demonstrates that childcare programs can work for small rural companies.
